Q: Have no problem with downloading and installing Avisto but have problem with starting it up with message 'java.lang.NullPointerException
       at.....'.

A:  Your Firewall may have blocked your Avisto deskstop to communicate back to its server for updates and licenses.  Please do the following:

  1. Go to the Support link then run the Test Firewall tool under the 'Problem with Internet connection?'.
  2. Talk to the network administration to enabling the port so that all tests are successful.
  3. Try again and if you still have the problem, please send email to Feedback@astonis.com.

Q: Did not receive the registration confirmation email with the temporary password.

A:  The confirmation email with the password is sent almost immediately after your registration.  Thus, if you do not receive it within a few minutes, please

  1. check your Junk Mail box.  Some email filter put it there.  If not, then
  2. Click on the 'Help' button (question mark button) on the login page and request the system to send you the password.
  3. If both fail, please send email to Support@astonis.com with your email address that you used for Avisto registration, we will be happy to iron out the problem.

Q: Error message when launching Avisto: "JNI exception: failed to create the Java VM. Reason: not enough memory."

A:  In most cases this error message shows up as a result of the system failure to launch the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The reason, however, in most cases is not a memory problem (as the error message might suggest), but more likely a system permission setting that cause the JVM launch to fail.

As this error message suggest, the system have failed to launch the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The reason, however, in most cases is not "not enough memory". In most cases, this is probably a system permission issue.

1. Use the start menu to get to the application.
2. When on the application, instead of left-clicking the application to launch it, right-click on the application.
3. In the pop-up menu that opens, select the "Run as..." option.
4. In the dialog box that will follow, use "The following user" option to launch the application.
Do not use the"current user" option, even if the "following user" you are using in the same as the "current user".
